Our parish is thriving, with a full calendar, and activities and roles for anyone that wants to be involved. We organize the ‘work’ of the parish into Ministries so that those with similar interests and skills can channel those passions into creating the welcoming energy that greets you when you walk through the doors of Ascension.
Acolytes are the white-robed assistants that quietly help lead our worship service by assisting the celebrant, ushers, and lay eucharistic ministers. Acolyte lead: Mary Ann Hardy
Each Sunday we are blessed to have delicious homemade bread that is served as communion replacing the traditional wafer hosts. This is a labor of love of the talented
bakers in our parish, and we are excited to share with any guests who join us on Sunday. Altar Bread lead: Fr. Mac Murray.
The Altar Guild is a behind the scenes group tasked with caring for the many concrete pieces that are used during the service. Members prepare the sanctuary for services, then clean up after the service, helping to make our worship and liturgy beautiful. Altar Guild leads: Jim Crouch, Esther Ross
Ascension values the connections we make in our community over the years. When health or mobility issues keep someone from attending church, or a family has moved, our Ascension Friends volunteers send notes and make phone calls to stay in touch, and keep the Ascension community intact over the miles. Ascension Friends lead: Marie Cain
The crafty knitters are a congenial group ranging from beginners to master knitters, and welcome anyone, no matter the level of expertise! And the projects extend beyond knitting- embroidery, crocheting, etc. are all welcome. The aim is to gather in fellowship, pursue your crafts, and create warm items that get donated to many projects in our community and abroad. Crafty knitters lead: Carol Goodall
Our flower Ministry is the talented group that creates artistic floral arrangements for our altar, our entryway and throughout our building. Flower Ministry lead: Esther Ross
With both seasoned gardeners and those that simply enjoy getting their hands dirty, our Garden Guild works to plan and plant our church gardens. This group maintains our beautiful outdoor space that is a peaceful sanctuary for our church parish, and a lovely landscape in our Magnolia community.
Ascension is a community that wants to honor the sacredness of Earth and the dignity of all people. We look for ways to practice a sustainable, just, simpler life, and to walk lightly and humbly in God’s creation. We look at our choices we make everyday at the parish, and we also take opportunities to be out in nature and enjoy its beauty and wonder! Green Faith committee: Mtr Heather Wenrick, Ian Clunies-Ross, Carolyn Rodenberg, Heather McRobbie, Kim Silver
Parishioners in Hearts and Hands offer a caring and tangible presence at a time of need through delivery of meals, visits and/or driving to appointments. Everyone
needs assistance from time to time, and these lovely parishioners are present to be there in your moment of need. Hearts and Hands lead: Nicole Janzen
Fellowship is an important part of the strong connection that many in our parish feel for each other. From weekly coffee hour, to our potlucks and celebrations, these opportunities to be with one another over the years forges strong friendships. This Ministry has hosting perfected, and yet never ceases to amaze! Hospitality leads: Patty Barrington, Eileen Askew.
Integral to Sunday Worship is this ministry team who assist the priest during Holy Communion and may read some of the scripture lessons. They are a visible, vital part of our Sunday service. LEM lead: Jim Crouch.
Lay Eucharistic Visitors faithfully care for our sisters and brothers who are unable to be present in church due to illness or infirmity. Our LEV team visits those parishioners at their residence or in the hospital, and bring Eucharist and a sense of connection to those who cannot attend service. LEV lead: Linda Snider, Dottie McCain, Nicole Janzen.
We know that entering a new church for the first time can be intimidating. The Newcomer Ministry works to create a welcoming environment, making sure everyone that walks through our doors is met with warmth, is able to find answers to questions and is supported in their search for a spiritual home. Newcomer lead: Melanie Audette
We have a group of dedicated parishioners who daily offer up prayers for any named individuals that are at the request of a parishioner. These daily prayers help maintain connection between us, especially those who are no longer able to attend services. If you have a prayer request, pleases submit it to Carol Goodall or Carole Furness. Please contact the office if you have questions.
Ushers are the welcoming faces that greet you with bulletins on Sunday mornings, and assist during the service by collecting offerings, bringing the elements to the altar and guiding rows to communion. Usher lead: Nicole Janzen.

Our Healing and Justice Ministry seeks to faithfully respond to God’s call to love our neighbors by learning about the history of injustice and recognizing where it persists and impacts society today. Through prayerful reflection and community engagement, we explore issues of equity through guest speakers, field trips to social justice museums, and movie screenings.
